Q: What is Freshman Convocation?

A: The annual freshman convocation welcomes freshmen and their families to the university community and promotes student success and the attainment of a degree. It also celebrates the achievements of the incoming freshman class.

Q: When is Convocation?

A: Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 4:00 P.M.

Q: Where will it be held?

A: UNM Popejoy Hall.

Q: How long does it last?

A: One hour.

Q: Who participates?

A: All incoming freshmen, their families and guests, and faculty are invited to attend.

Q: How do I participate?

A: You can sign up to participate online by submitting the freshmen sign-up form.

Q: Are tickets required for freshmen or guests?

A: Tickets are not required of freshmen or their guests.

Q: Where do I and my guests sit?

A: Freshmen and their guests will not be seated together.

Freshmen will be directed to their seats by faculty marshals. Please arrive and line-up on time or you will not be seated in Popejoy Hall.

Please advise any guests accompanying you that they may not be seated in the same venue. They will be seated either in:

• the mezzanine and balcony seating areas in Popejoy Hall, or
• in the SUB Ballroom, where there will be a special presentation for guests and a projection screen will relay the ceremony.

Q: What do I wear to the ceremony?

A: You will wear your regular casual clothing. The T-shirts that will be distributed prior to the ceremony will need to be worn over your top/shirt.

Q: Where do I get my free UNM T-shirt?

A: As you line up for the processional mentioned above, you will be given a T-shirt to wear over your clothing during the ceremony.

Q: Will there be a rehearsal?

A: There will NOT be a rehearsal.

A: Parking information can be found at our maps & parking webpage.

Q: Who do I contact for special accommodations?

A: Freshmen attending the convocation ceremony who need special accommodations should indicate the nature of the accommodations needed when completing the participation form. Please be sure to provide contact information so that we may contact you directly. For more information, please call the Office of the Secretary at (505) 277-4664.
